Brian and Comrades
Chances are you read and re read this material already but I found it interesting and want to throw it out there to everybody.
www.csa-railroads.com. Go to top left of homepage to the scroll tab. click on SC. It provides you with a list of all the rail roads in operation in the state at of the time we are focused on. Interesting details on types of cars and rail specs. Also there is copies of dozens of dispatches written by Department commanders, CS quartermasters, rail road company leaders. I found one that even makes mention of bringing up troops by rail to support BG Evan's position in April of 62. I am trying to look up the locations of stops and junctions along the line so hopefully I can get out in the woods and lay my eyes on some 150 year old track line.
Also, i figured the info on the railroads running throught the northern districts could help in the research of the the pre war jobs, community, and members of the Brigade itself. I know farming wasn't the only way for a young man to break his back in the pre war years.
