Greetings! My G-Grampa Robert Marion McClain was born March 11, 1840, York County, South Carolina, and died March 4, 1905 Cleveland County, Arkansas. He enlisted in the 17th with his bother James McClain, but were enlisted as McLean, R.; and McLean, James. To date have been unable to find further info, and hope this forum will lead me to viable resources. I hope to share with the forum info relevant to the 17th that I may find in my research.

My great Uncle is the real family historian, and he tells me the Robert was in the Carolina Rifles, although I am not certain of that point. A GG-Grampa on my mom's side was in the Missouri 11th Volunteer Infantry, so I am also researching that side. I will be very happy to communicate and share with those who may provide information helpful to my search.
