I invited the email list for the Westville event to our forum, Hopefully they will introduce themselves and the impression they have. These are the stalwart living historians of the ACW community and they will mainly be the ones to appear at our events.

In lieu of a letter of introduction from a person of higher standing, I offer my own.

My name is Diane Gleason and I am a member of the Golden Teacup Society based in Jacksonville, Florida. We are a group of individuals who portray the Civil War Civilian. We have many "classes" in our group and many levels of expertise. Our main goal is to portray the civilian accurately to our utmost ability.

During the Sparks of Secession event, my portrayal was Anna Colier. I was weaving baskets. It truly is not known if Mrs. Colier was a basket weaver, however, it is concievable that she had the knowledge. Her husband was a farmer of comfortable means.

My "normal" persona is that of a middle-middle class person. I am comfortable but not wealthy. This allows me many things to share and demonstrate. I still have some more research to do. I am leaning towards my husband being a store proprietor of some sort. This would allow me an outlet for the items my daughter and I create at "home" - spinning, knitting, quilting, basket weaving. It is not far off from that of my ancestral family.

I am always on the look out for more research as it applies to my situation. Nicely put criticism or advice is always welcome and often solicited.

Diane

Same here Diane:

We value people that put that much thought and effort in to their impression.
The Golden Teacup group sounds like our sort. We will definitely check you out :)

Hi everyone; My name is Al Bouler; and I portrayed Henry Sherman the schoolmaster during the recent event in Westville. I really enjoyed meeting new friends during the event, and seeing old ones as well. I was very impressed with everyones portrayal of the people of the town in 1861. It became very real to me. I am amember of Bast's Rangers a War of 1812 group in Alabama. I do first person of David Crockett at an up coming event called The Alabama Frontier Days. I work at Old Alabama Town a Victorian village in Montgomery and portray the school master there. Once again it was a pleasure to be able to be a part of the Westville event and I'm looking forward to doing it again in 2010 if Henry survives the war and returns home. Al :D
