Greetings Gentlemen:

I have been viewing your site for several weeks now and am very impressed with your primary source material and enjoyed reading the various posts. I decided to finally take the "plunge" and introduce myself to you all. I have recently moved to Summerville and have been searching for a quality unit to fall in with and support the "need".
Although I am orignally from the upstate New York area I decided to attend The Citadel for my college experience and graduated with a History degree in 2002. I was fortunate enough to work with Rick Hatcher for a semester as an intern at Fort Moultrie. It was a blast transcribing the various Ordnance reports. After school I entered the Army as a Cavalry (Armor) officer. I spent time at Fort Knox, Fort Polk, and Fort Lewis. I was also fortunate enough to make some pit stops in Baghdad, Najaf, and in the Diyala Province of Iraq. This past Thanksgiving I left the military to pursue my civilian interests and relocated to Summerville with my wife. I am now working in Columbia (yes, I commute) with Westinghouse.
I have been out of the hobby for some time now but recently pulled my kit back out and feel the need to renew my interest. I began reenacting when I was 14 with an outfit in New York and gradually began to move to the more progressive side of things. I did a few events with the Liberty Rifles and Southern Guard and then faded off of the reenacting map.
I really like the direction you all seem to be stearing this Brigade. Battlefield preservation is very important to me and I am glad to see it is an important part of your organization. It is exciting to see your vision of producing a group of 40 to "properly" execute company level drill and have to capacity to host events. And as a bonus, the South Carolina impression is the best in all of the hobby. I was also glad to see some military folks in your ranks.
I would be very interested in seeing your group in action around the Charleston area, if you would allow. My kit is more a generic AOV type but I do have a Charleston Depot jacket. I also have a Federal kit for those occasions of galvanization.
Thanks much for the site, your work and your commitment. I would love to hear from you all soon and look forward to meeting up with you soon.

Respectfully,
Kenneth Moran

Welcome Kenneth,

It will be grand to have another Veteran in our midst. As you can see by looking around the forum and website we have a lot of stuff available in the next few weeks which are low stress and can provide you an opportunity to meet the other members and get to know them. I live on the Peninsula in Charleston and do Gov't Contracting in North Charleston.

I've made one Charleston Depot Jacket from a Charlie Childs kit and am going to making two more here in October if my planning goes well. I'd love to take a look at the one you had for reference. But that is for another day...

Thanks Peter for the welcoming. I was meaning to come and see you all at the Moultrie LH but as I just moved into my home I can never seem to get caught-up on my "honey-do" list. One of my old buddies from college, Skip Owens was attending and I wanted to greet him and see your outfit. I will look through your calender and make some arrangements from there.

I would love to talk Charleston Depot with you some time. I have had some difficulty with my research. I picked my coat up while at The Citadel, bought it from Skip.

Out of curiosity what fabrics are you all using for the early war frocks and black trowsers?

One last question as well; are you using Gilhams or Hardees?

Thanks.
Ken

Hello and welcome Kenneth I look forward to seeing you in the field sometime soon. Hey if you have some free time and want to take the wife out to Middleton Place Plantation (Just down the road from Summerville) let me know and I’ll leave word with the front gate to let y’all in for free. When your there stop by the blacksmith shop and say hello. I work at Middleton Place every Sunday-Thursday. I’m new to the group myself but have been in the hobby for nearly 30 years The boys with the Tramp Brigade that I’ve met so far are all top notch good fellows. I’d be happy to answer any questions that you might have in person so come on by.

See you soon pard.

Ron

Gentlemen:

Thank-you so much for the warm welcome. I really do appreciate what your group is doing and would be humbled to become a part of it. I honestly do not believe that I could go through 2015 without honoring the sacrifice these men (North and South) made 150 years ago. I further hope that 150 years from now my ancestors are honoring the sacrifice the military is making today on foreign fields of battle.

Thank-you also for the offer at the Middleton Place. I would love to come on down and chat. Hope to see you there soon.

I am late in welcoming you, my computer suffered a kinetic episode. Anyways thanks for joining this forum and for all the primary resource material you added. The goals for this forum are research, recruiting and coordination of events.

We are trying to stay out of the reenactor politics and more professionally focused on actual results. I could have wrote a massive three book volume trying to convince people that this was the right way to do things, not perfect, but the best we could do.

I am enjoying your posts as well.

Gentlemen:

I can tell by your correspondence that you are a first rate organization; bully for you. I think we can all agree that we deal with enough politics in our day to day lives to have them contaminate our "hobby". I plan on attending the Moultrie Timeline event and as many future events I can with your organization. See you in the field soon pards. If there are any membership requirements can you please forward those to me? Thanks all.

Ken
