My name is Joseph Gangler; folks usually just call me Joey…or some expletive.
I am 26 y/o married w/ one daughter and 2 step kids. I am currently a domestic engineer so…well not much is interesting about my personal life. I was born and raised in South GA and currently still reside here.
I started reenacting about 10 years back, chose to do this because of my passion for learning about the War Between the States. When I joined up I was in the 12th GA Co. C. I was with them until last year when several members left the 12th to start the 21st seeking more authenticity. I also started the Flatlander’s Mess about 5 years ago for campaigners in South GA and North Fl.
Hmmm I don’t know what else to add, ask me anything I am pretty much an open book.

Joey:
Your Aiken AAR was a howl, now you can see what we put up with the in SC or so long. BTW that same group wants to conduct a Immersion Tier 1 event at the Florence stockade next December, a scant 7 days from our Moultrie event. Let's see if they can do it without the golf cart shuttle from the parking lot.

Yea man, I see what you have to deal with up there. It's not much better round here really.
So that same group wants to rape history again? Oh my....well like I say. The first casualty of any event is the History book, secodn is the drill manual and 3rd is corndogs and funnel cake.

Howdy Joey: It's good to see that this forum is growing. We may have met at Aiken. I was with the 30th NC Troops. We were assigned to the Georgia guys for the event and I got to talk to some of them during down time in the ranks. The Georgia officers favorably impressed our officers with their laid back approach. This forum has me listed as a "campaigner" but I'm really a mainstreamer and not at all ashamed of it, but that's a discussion for another thread. The Tramp Mess is a very easy bunch of guys to talk to and have been quite helpful with some research. Some of us older guys have started a militia/home guard group up in North Carolina and we're planing to bring a few guys down for the Moultrie event. I hope to see you in the field. I'll wave as I ride by on the parking lot shuttle! Walt.

Joey,
Welcome to Brigade and the Forum, I'll look forward to our first meeting an opportunity to stand in ranks together.
I just have to ask... is your screen name "magnificentbastard" a reference to 2nd Battlion, 4th Marines? Being a student of history and a Marine it seemed a logical reference...

Hey Walt, It is nice to meet you. Take my comments with a grain of salt. I just like to spew off sometimes. Yea some of our GA officers can hold their own....cept when they tell us to about face to a battle line about to fire a volley at point blank.
Hey Peter,
No my username is not in anyway associated with the Marines. That is actually news to me. I got my nick name from an old and dear friend in this hobby years ago. Long story there. I do like their insignia though.

Joey: Funny you should mention it: " ...cept when they tell us to about face to a battle line about to fire a volley at point blank." Some time ago, I ran across a newspaper article that was written by a member of the Tramp Brigade about his experience in the '62 battle at Kinston, NC. He said that they were given the command to "fall back firing." Like you, turning my back
on the enemy runs against the grain. Walt

Joey,
I'm glad I could offer you some new knowledge. Marines are pretty jealous of our heritage. From what I have gathered, although your nickname wasn't Marine related, it is definately in keeping with 2/4 and its reputation. I don't turn my back on a foe , unless there is a historical reason why I need to.
Semper Fi,

Yea I have been teaching my guys to fall back firing and advance. Most of the mainstream group I am in frown on it because of safety. However I think anything can be done that those men did during the war, all you you need is a little common sense and a mindset outside of the ol' weekend warrior routine.
BTW Brian and Greg, you guys going to Central this weekend to see the "Myspace" crew?
