This is an image I found at the Confederate Museum here in Greenville, SC. Their label said it is of Samuel W. Milliken of the 22nd SC. The CW Soldiers and Sailors System lists a J. W. Milliken of the 22nd SC.
I thought the jacket he is wearing is very interesting. Has anyone seen a similar jacket? The tape on the collar and the front is very lightly colored (white, yellow, light blue?) and is very wide. I don't know if the buttons are wood but they don't look to be brass.
I don't know if it helps us understand Tramp Brigade uniforms better, but it's an interesting uniform nonetheless.

This is very interesting! The CWSS lists Mr. Milliken as in Co. G of the 22nd, which would put him as in the same company as many of my relatives! This company was raised from northern part of Anderson County and I'm sure had some men from Pickens county as well.

Will, it is very logical to assume this guy was from the upcountry as this museum's items are mostly local. Brian, they do not have the original image, just a copy. The curator has not yet responded about locating the original or figuring out when it was struck. Considering the success I've had nailing him down on other items, I'm guessing he doesn't know.

Tyler,
It was a common element of South Carolina Coats in 1861 to have accents and trim along the edges and bottoms of their coats. Green, yellow and other light collors where documented.
I'd agree with Brian, I would put this image to the early war period. Otherwise it would be very unusual.
